Object description :

"Little Girl With A Broken Jug, Terracotta By Nicolas Lecornet Known As Lecorney, Late 19th Century"
Lovely terracotta sculpture signed Lecorney, for Nicolas Lecornet artist from the end of the 19th century, representing a little girl holding a broken jug. How can we not be touched by this little face with her chubby cheeks pouting, as sad as she is to have broken her jug. This terracotta is of great finesse in its creation, with many details bringing the subject to life such as the hair enclosed under a headdress, the small scarf tied on the chest, the apron rolled up and held in a small hand while the another holds the jug with the gaping hole, the ample folds of the dress and the little shoes with the well-made bows. This representation is reminiscent of the fable of The Milkmaid and the Milk Pot by Jean de La Fontaine, in which young Perrette sees all her dreams disappear when her jug breaks: "Farewell calf, cow, pig, brood”!
