Object description :

"Interesting Painting Depicting "holy Family", Central Italy School Of The Late 17th-early 18th"
Truly an interesting painting which presents an unusual iconography of the "Holy Family", in fact, the protagonist subject in this case is Saint Joseph, who is placed at the center of the painting, while he firmly holds the baby Jesus still in swaddling clothes, with his body all wrapped up from the arms down. In the face of Saint Joseph one can glimpse a semblance of melancholy, but it should be noted that in comparison to other depictions of the subject with Saint Joseph and the child, here he appears serene and confident. It is obvious that in this intimate "Holy Family" the emphasis was on the bond between father and son, between Saint Joseph and the child, in fact, the Virgin Mary is depicted in profile and away from the other subjects, while with joy prays with hands clasped at the sight of the baby Jesus, who expresses a strong and smiling expression. At the bottom left the corner of a table, on which rests a ceramic plate, containing with high probability, instruments or ointments for the care of the newborn,

The painting shows a certain pictorial confidence, and was certainly painted by a very capable painter belonging to an artistic workshop active in the papal state, in fact it is possible to recognize the knowledge of Bolognese, Carracci, but also purely Roman stylistic influences. Certainly, careful research on this canvas can reveal the name of a skilled painter or an interesting pictorial school of devotional scope active between the end of the seventeenth century and the beginning of the eighteenth century.

the painting is characterized by a certain materiality and dense and confident brushstrokes, which can be seen by approaching the painting.

The canvas is mounted on a gilded and carved Marche frame from the same period as the painting or from a few decades later.

The measurements are: 53cm x 65cm high including frame.

The painting was recently cleaned and restored, but given that it was in excellent condition, without any pictorial losses, as can be seen from the bright colors still preserved, it was decided not to reline it and leave it on the first canvas with its original stretcher.

We attach a historical certificate of authenticity to the sale.
