"Small Marquetry Table, Louis XVI Taste – Late 19th Century"
Charming table in rosewood veneer with lemon tree inlaid decorations. This has a top composed in the center of four leaves of rosewood arranged like butterfly wings, accompanied by lemon tree marquetry forming volutes, arabesques and flowers. Around it, an animated garland of light wood accompanies a strip of rosewood veneer arranged diagonally. A second perimeter composed of scrolls and flowers delimits an exterior part also in rosewood veneer arranged against the grain. The top of this small table is surrounded by a molding composed of a groove and a small corbin beak. The facade, still in rosewood veneer, has a floral composition of lemon tree surrounded by a net of light wood. A threaded entry highlights the passage of the key which activates a hook lock allowing the opening of the table. Inside, we discover thuja burl with storage space and the dark flap of a mirror with molded wooden frame. This delightful little piece of furniture rests on 4 legs turned into a wooden spindle decorated with veining. In the lower part, there is a concave spacer connecting these 4 feet with a sculpted pattern in the center. This meticulously and thoughtfully crafted table attracts the eye with its delicacy and ornamentation. ******** Period: Late 19th Century Excellent condition. Waxed finish on hard base.
