"Important Fireplace Trim In Marble And Bronze, Empire Style – 2nd Part 19th"
Important three-piece fireplace set, consisting of a clock and a pair of candelabras. The Siena brocatelle marble clock, made in the temple spirit, is topped with a bronze sculpture with a gilded patina representing a lion from the Roman circus highlighted by a twisted brass rod. The cornice is bordered by a frieze of eggs also in gilded bronze. The entablature, decorated with motifs of the archangel Gabriel on the front and a lion's head on the sides, is supported by four columns with Corinthian capitals resting in chalices with acanthus leaves. The glazed interior presents a clock whose dial, enamelled and chiseled brass, is graduated with Roman numeral hours. The whole rests on a base decorated with palm leaves ending in small spinning top feet. This decoration is accompanied by a pair of large five-light candelabras in gilded bronze delicately carved with scrolls and scrolls. The candle holders are reminiscent of the petals of a flower. Each of the candelabras is decorated at the top with a candle snuffer resembling buds. In the spirit of the clock, the shafts are supported by larger chalices resting on a square base with palmette motifs and also ending in small spinning top feet.
