Object description :

"Workshop Plaster Representing The Actor Frédéric Lemaitre Around 1860 By Ja Cérémonie"
Extraordinary studio plaster by the sculptor Jean Adolphe Cérémonie (1830/1881) representing the very famous actor from Boulevard du crime in Paris Frédéric Lemaitre (1800/1876), in the role of Chopart in the play by Eugène Moreau (1806/ 1877) “the Lyon courier”. This workshop plaster has a shiny dark bronze-like patina. A text engraved on the back explains the subject. Signed on the terrace and the character's name is engraved on the front. This sculpture is treated in a caricatured manner and the actor in his directoire clothing exudes comic authority. It is a true document on theatrical life under the Second Empire. Probably unique sculpture. Object in its "juice" but in decent condition, missing on the top of the bicorne, small wear to the patina and small accidents. The tip of the nose is not broken but weathered. Height: 36 cm
