Representing a Masquerade Ball.
Frantz Charlet, 1862-1928, Belgian impressionist painter, engraver and lithographer. He was a student of Jean-François Portaels at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, his hometown. He then perfected his skills at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris with Léon Gérôme, Jules Lefebvre and Carolus-Duran. In 1883, he was one of the founding members of the groups Les Vingt, the Circle of Fine Arts of Ostend, and l'Essor. His students included Eugène Broerman, François-Joseph Halkett, Théo Van Rysselberghe and Rodolphe Wytsman. He then worked in Paris where he expressed the atmosphere of social life and racetracks. he was a member of the Salon des Artistes Français, where he obtained an honorable mention in 1884 and a 3rd class medal the following year. He died in Paris in 1928. Artist Listed at Bénézit, Arto and Piron, Listed at Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc... Works at the Museums of Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent and Mol.
