"Tabernacle In Carved And Gilded Wood, Auvergne 17th Century."
This interesting altar piece of furniture, from the Louis XIV period, has a rich facade, opening to a door carved with a large cross in a surround of two rose bushes climbing from a mound. The interior is in original "oxblood". On either side, two mercury mirrors, in pareclose, surrounded by two falling garlands of small roses, are crowned with two cherubs facing each other. These same winged angels are found at the bottom and top of the door, the arch of which reproduces that of the elegant cornice. The two sides are in the shape of arched niches, with a blue background, fitted with gadrooned consoles and a shell on the top. They are summed up by the same two cherubs smiling at each other under the return of the cornice, like the only glazing bead: the other 'side', without ornament, indicates the old recess of the tabernacle above the altar. Beautiful regional work (Auvergne) in good condition despite some gaps on the sides. Original fittings.
