Rare and large engraving representing the separation of Louis XVI and his family at the Temple tower before the king's execution on January 21, 1793. Madame Elisabeth is here represented on the left, mourning the departure of her brother King Louis XVI, sit on a chair. In the center, Queen Marie-Antoinette tries to hold back the tears of her children Louis Charles of France and Marie-Thérèse, nicknamed "Mousseline", who will be the only survivor of this period of history. Finally, on the right, Louis XVI surrounded by his jailers looks at his family one last time, left hand on his chest, while heading towards the door where the guards are waiting for him. Our engraving is in good condition. However, numerous wet spots all around its perimeter (see photos) It is presented under glass in a black and gold Napoleon III frame with small wear. Beautiful old glass. A copy of this engraving is kept in the collections of the Louvre as well as at the Carnavalet Museum.
