"Pair Of Low Bookcases In Rosewood, Louis XVI Style, 19th Century. (184cm X 134cm)."
Exceptional pair of Louis XVI style low bookcases, dating from the second half of the 19th century. These bookcases, at support height, are inlaid with rosewood and amaranth. There are also tulip tree fillets, naturally green wood. The marquetry on the bottom of the doors is called “butterfly-winged”. Each bookcase opens with three doors on the front. The central door is projecting. The doors are glass and mesh, each has its own lock and working key (one key is a little crooked, but works perfectly). The uprights, with rounded corners, feature fluted decorations, still using the marquetry technique. The sides are also inlaid. These bookcases have a total of 16 modular shelves, which can be adjusted to the desired height. The edges of the shelves are also in veneer. The marble tops, red breccia from Languedoc, are molded, and also project in order to fit the central door. It is quite rare to see a pair of bookcases with these dimensions, at support height. This work is of very good quality. This pair of bookcases is in good condition, note some old small restorations. The marbles have been restored, one of them by our marble worker. Dimensions: 184cm wide, 134cm high and 34cm deep.
