Object description :

"Pewter Wine Pitcher - Tououse, 18th Century"

Elegant pewter baluster PITCHER with straight and oblique pedestal and cup, raised lid with flat roof and oak acorn handle.
Stamped property mark: I / lis / T.
Control mark: crowned CC / TOL / 1709. (TOL for Tolosa).
Height: 8 inches.
TOULOUSE, first half of the 18th century

Let us point out that in Toulouse, like many French centers, the royal edict of 1691 the control mark was not rigorously respected. This hallmark with the vintage of 1709 is the last listed, so it was used for a large part of the 18th century without being updated. In the absence of a maker's mark, this control therefore does not make it possible to precisely date the objects bearing it. Likewise, in other production centers the 1691 vintage was also used for a large part of the following century, which leads non-specialists to date the pewters bearing this vintage from the 17th century.

Rare provenance in perfect condition.
These pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime.
