Oil on canvas Presented in a Louis XIV period frame in gilded wood, so-called flowered corner model. Total dimensions: 60 x 51 cm. The canvas alone: 45 x 37 cm. Painted in Italy around 1780 – 1810, this Young Monk is seen frontally, in bust, with his head slightly turned to the right. He is placed on a red-brown background and wears a dark green cloth robe. As if lit by a spotlight in the great tradition of Caravaggio painters; What immediately strikes us is her youth and her beautiful face with very sensual lips. We are here in the presence of the portrait of a real person and not the representation of a saint. There is no doubt that the painter must have been a close friend of the model, as an implication seems obvious. Recently cleaned, the pictorial surface was found to be in a very good state of conservation. Sold with a certificate.
