"Sheffield 1815, Sterling Silver, Pair Of Wine Coasters, Georgian , John And Thomas Settle"
Extremely rare pair of wine coasters from the Empire or George III period for the English public. They bear the guarantee marks for the sterling silver of the city of Sheffield for the year 1815 and the master silversmith's mark of John and Thomas Settle who were active as goldsmiths between 1815 and 1824. The solid silver setting surrounds a turned wooden bottom in the middle of which a solid silver pellet is set. The bottle holders can accommodate a simple bottle as well as a magnum or a large decanter . Bottle holders or "wine coasters" from the Georgian period are rare and highly prized by collectors of English silverware.
