"Painting By Clément Alfonse Fanart (1831-1903) “the Haymaking”"
Superb Salon painting by Clément Antonin FANART REPRESENTING A haymaking in the background animated with characters and animals on the edge of a river. Signed lower right and on its original canvas, with its magnificent period Caneaux frame in 18-carat gold leaf stucco. FANART followed the lessons of the famous François DIDAY in Geneva where he participated in his first exhibition in 1854, he settled in Paris and exhibited at the Salon from 1857 to 1879, obtaining an honorable mention in 1861. Fully inspired by the school of 1830 known as the Barbizon school, he renders a subtle and delicate light in his landscapes often taken in the Jura, Savoie or France Comté. our work is part of the second distinguished period of the painter, the best in quality and variety of subjects that he accomplished (1859-1880). Our painting is similar to the one exhibited at the Salon of 1864 "Moisson en Franche Comté). His student was Émile ISENBART (1846-1921). Paintings by him are kept in the museums of Besançon, Dole, Ornans (Gustave COURBET museum)
