"Indochina, Important Carved And Inlaid Tray, Dragon Decor, Early 20th Century."
Spectacular tray made in Indochina around 1900/1920. It was carved from a single piece of ironwood. His gripping hands are of rare sculptural finesse, they represent two dragons posed in the middle of clouds facing each other. They have a significant relief which allows them to play particularly well with the light. Judged to have a determined, optimistic and courageous character, the dragon is considered an auspicious sign. The center of the tray is decorated with fine marquetry representing a young girl with a parasol walking in a garden. Please note: this tray is in very good general condition. An old repair on a corner near a handle, it only concerns the underside of the tray. Please look carefully at the photos.
