According to Prof.ssa Parrilla the painting was originated by a painting of Sebastiano del Piombo which derived from a drawing (cartonetto) of Michelangelo.
On the basis of the above Prof.ssa Parrilla and others have organized an exhibition in Rome from October 2019 to January 2020 at Palazzo Barberini called: “Michelangelo in colour” where a painting like ours appeared (painting owned by Accademia San Luca) see for details:

As of now overall there are three known originals / replicas including ours; one in the Accademia San Luca – it came as a donation and was initially attributed to Sebastiano del Piombo - and another one in private hands sold by Christie’s in July 2017.
