Circa 1792-1794 France Rare black felt cocked hat of Commissioner of the first French Republic, at the fall of the Ancien Régime around 1793 (proclamation of the Convention). Hat fitted with its shaped box covered with wallpaper from the same period. Precious testimony to the history of France, corresponding to what has been called The Terror. Bicorne model with large lapel, decorated with a tricolor silk cockade, and a black beaded trimmings braid with a black swan feather plume (broken branch). Inner cap lined with black leather and sky-blue silk pongee (lacunar silk). Please note, centuries-old patina and structural fragility of the bicorne, dirt and deformation of the box lid.
