Object description :

"Stoneware Pitcher - Westerwald (?), 18th Century"

PITCHER in stoneware with gray glaze and decoration in light relief of twisted motifs composed of triangles and friezes of bunches of grapes.
Pewter lid with the mark of an unidentified master: crowned hammer / ILB
Height: 29 cm
WESTERWALD, 18th century

Small cooking slot in the middle part of the handle
The earthenware makers removed the pewter accessories from their productions (lids, hoops, ... etc) by master tin potters, often geographically close. When these hallmarks are identified, they give an indication or confirmation of provenance.
Bibliography: “Historische Trinkgefässe” Important sales catalog by Johannes Vogt Auktionen from May 2009.
