Pastel signed and dated "Albert Durand 89". It represents an old street in Fougères, town of Ille-et-Vilaine, in the Brittany region. Albert Durand de la Béduaudière Was born in Fougères in 1856 and died in 1943. He is listed as a painter and photographer. He joined the School of Fine Arts in Paris, and joined Emmanuel de la Villéon, also a native of Fougères. He is a student of Gustave Boulanger and Jules Lefèvre. He became a member of the Society of French Artists in 1885. In 1888, he collaborated on the illustrated review of Brittany and Anjou. He published 12 drawings there. He participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1891, and in Vannes in 1892. He settled permanently in Fougères in 1903 upon the death of his father. He founded the Fougères tourist office in 1913 and became curator of the museum in 1929. Also a photographer, he donated more than 7,000 photographs of Fougères and others to the Brittany Museum. our pastel is in perfect condition in a superb original frame. A few small losses at the back, not much. Beautiful original gilding. Dimensions of the pastel alone, 44 cm x 30 cm. With frame, 56 cm x 42 cm.
