"19th Century Porcelain Biscuit Sculpture - Young Girl With Birds - G. Levy"
Important biscuit statuette from the end of the 19th century, signed "G. Levy" (1820-1899) Height 50cm This biscuit represents a young girl feeding baby birds in their nest, and could be titled "la Becquée", or well "Le Dévouement" (title appearing on a regula version of this biscuit) The sculpture is of great finesse, particularly at the level of the face, the hands, the feet, and the rose petals making up the bouquet on the knees of the young girl The face as well as the costume of the young girl are similar to those appearing on the bust of the same sculptor entitled "Innocence", and also recall the young girl appearing on a bisque bust of a young girl signed Hippolyte Moreau representing the fiancée who appears in a painting by Jean-Baptiste Greuze, entitled “L’Accordée de village”. Biscuit in Very good condition We can nevertheless assume that the front of the utensil (pipette, spoon?) intended to feed the baby birds and held in the left hand of the young girl, is missing (see photos)
