Dutch painter
Active 1625 - 1660
Flowers in a vase
Oil on panel : 59,5 X 46,2 cm
Bears lower middle a monogram “JHB” (which would refer to Horatius Bollongier)
(originally it might have been “JF” which was changed into “JHB”)
Dated lower right “1660”
Frame : 72,4 X 58,8 cm
I would like to thank Dr. Fred Meijer who has given the attribution.
Dr. Meijer thinks the Monogrammist JF was a painter from The Hague, called Johannes Flups.
It is not known whom the Monogrammist JF studied with.
His carefully composed bouquets of flowers, silhouetted against a plain background seem to have been influenced by Hans Bollongier, Ambrosius Bosschaert II and Jacob Marrel.
