"Charlay-pompon The Lavandières Impressionist Painting 19th Century"
The washerwomen by the river, impressionist painting on panel signed lower left Ch. Pompon, for Charles Charlay-Pompon, in an important wooden and stucco frame gilded with gold leaf. Dimensions of the painting 15.5x23.5 cm Total dimensions, with frame, 41.5x51 cm Charlay-Pompon, born in 1836 in Paris, was a student of Alexandre Rapin, a painter very close to Gustave Courbet. He participated in the Paris Salon from 1880 to 1894, he received an honorable mention in 1882, he was appointed official painter of the Navy in 1883. He contributed to Le Monde Illustré. In 1885 he obtained a third class medal. His landscapes, particularly the river banks, are painted in a fluid technique, fresh colors, using rigorous compositions. He died in Paris on July 30, 1904.
