The drawing of the faces is superbly realistic, there are a lot of details in the costumes.
On a poster on the left we read:
MEDICAL STUDENTS' BALL FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE POOR, MARCH 4, 1865.
signed lower right G.Gostiaux* and dated 1865.
In the 19th century between the ball of the crazy, the ball of the 4 zarts and the medical interns' ball the illustrators had work to create a number of posters and leaflets to promote these events.
Our mixed technique deserves to be saved, the support is a very thick paper, once framed it will regain its superb appearance. *Gabriel Gostiaux (1838-1910) is a painter, draftsman, illustrator and lithographer who collaborated on numerous periodicals including Charivari, Surprises et fancies and was an image designer in Épinal between 1902 and 1905.
