"Early 20th Century Pair Of Stucco Sphinxes"
Pair of sphinxes made of patinated stucco, produced in Italy at the beginning of the 20th century. The sculptures were created following the model of archaeological finds, as was typical of the time. In the case of this pair, the sphinxes represented are busts with a human head, called "androsphinxes", which follow the iconography of the pharaoh. For this reason they wear the headdress called "nemes", a symbol of the divine nature and are adorned with a beard, a symbol of nobility, which was usually fake and used only as an ornamental element. This is a particularly notable and refined pair of sculptures, capable of enriching any environment. In fact, with their presence, the sphinxes create a fascinating and mysterious atmosphere, transporting those who observe them on a journey into the past.Measurements: HxWxD 38 x 25 x 22cm.
