Set of 2 bronze medals engraved by Emile Monier* (1883-1970) and dated 1930, one "Femme Kassonké" and the other "Couple Peulhs", in a glass presentation box (rear), period Third Republic 1930 20th century. These medals are in good general condition. Emile Monier engraved at least six different medals with the people of Africa; Ouolof woman, Peuhls, Kassonké woman, Tuareg Bogoliten, Young Senoufo girl and Moor of Aleg.. Obverse: WOMAN / KASSONKE // KAYES signed: EMILE MONIER. Reverse SUDAN FRANCE, Map of the state of Sudan, women in profile on either side, signed: EM. Obverse: PEULHS. Heads of a Peulh couple in profile on the left, signed: EMILE MONIER 1930. Reverse: GUINEE. Map of Guinea, bananas in the foreground, signed: EMILE MONIER 1930. Note: some shocks and dirt on the medals, wear and scratches from time, see photos. * Émile Adolphe Monier (1883-1970) known as Émile Monier is a French sculptor, emblematic of the Art Deco period. He created very beautiful portraits of the different ethnic groups of the former French colonial empire. We know of his bronze medals stamped with superb profiles of Bornou, Peuhl, Senoufo, or Tuareg men and women created in particular for the Colonial Exhibition of 1931.
