Large statue of Ahayuta (or Ahayu'da).
In Zuni mythology, Ahayuta are twin war gods. They were created by Awonawilona, the sun god, to protect the first people from their enemies.
The Zuni carved one of the Ahayuta twins from pieces of wood struck by lightning in order to ensure protection and victory in battle.
This statue presents a face with angular contours and a thin nose. Its center is pierced with a hole into which a cylindrical piece of wood is inserted. The base is decorated with carved horizontal bands.
