"Property Secretary In Cherry Wood, Return From Egypt Period – Early 19th Century"
This secretary in solid cherry wood, topped with Carrara marble, opens at the waist with a drawer decorated with ebony fillets and fitted with two bronze lion's snout pulling rings, accompanied by a functional original lock with entry and key. Below, the flap has a dark miter-cut frame of a panel also highlighted with ebony fillets. This flap, which locks using an authentic three-point lock with a cloverleaf key, is mounted on a brass compass and reveals a writing space covered in original green leather with gold stickers. The interior part, called the tabernacle, topped with an upper drawer, is decorated with eight small drawers including one compartmentalized and a larger central one. The latter is also equipped with a working lock. The lower part of this piece of furniture has a double door with top and bottom lock, supplied with its cloverleaf key, closing with a so-called nut system. The projecting pilasters, tapering towards the bottom, are decorated with caryatid busts and gilded bronze elements. These pilasters end at the front with lion's paws in blackened wood and at the back with turned feet. The sides are each composed of two panels with a central crosspiece. The back as well as the bottoms of the drawers are in oak. We will remember this secretary for, in particular, its size and the warm tone of its cherry wood. Often offered in mahogany, we note the rarity of this model in fruit wood.
