UMBRELLA ATTRIBUTED TO A VETERAN OF THE GRAND ARMY JOSEPH SERRURIER, July Monarchy. 26691 Handle in brown and blond horn striated and engraved in the shape of a shell at its end, brass pole with its base a long sliding ring, in stamped brass, representing the tomb of Emperor Napoleon I and a dog under the willow, surrounded stars and laurel branches. Above “THE COMPANION IN MISFORTUNE”, below “MEMORIES AND REGRET” with eight baleen whales and iron ribs. Horn hands. Black canvas. Tinplate ground tap. Brass sink. PROVENANCE: This umbrella would have belonged to Joseph Serrurier, born in Magny in Yonne on July 6, 1788, died on November 11, 1876, veteran of the First Empire from 1809 to 1814, having received the medal of Saint Helena.
