Rare Mexican Mask In Carved Wood From The 19th Century flag

Object description :

"Rare Mexican Mask In Carved Wood From The 19th Century "
A very unusual object: rare Mexican ceremonial dance mask from the state of Guerrero representing a white man, a conquistador.
in carved wood, painted with its original polychromy and remains of gilding, it is in excellent state of conservation. the eyes are glass, one of them has probably been changed over time.
horizontal slits between the eyes and eyebrows allowed the dancer to see.
This type of mask is not only rare on the market but is extremely well made with very strong relief and beautiful sculpting work.
this one is early in the 19th century.

a superb collector's mask
