André Strauss (1885-1975)
STRAUSS, André, born in Paris on June 2, 1885, † Nogent-sur-Marne, September 1971. A student of Ernest Laurent, he began in 1908 at the Salon des Artistes français. He won a gold medal and the Corot prize in 1925. He then exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries, of which he was one of the founding members. He also exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, of which he had been a member since 1930. He participated in several group exhibitions: at the Venice Biennale, in Copenhagen, Berlin, Cairo, Tokyo, New York, Brussels, San Francisco. He executed the decorative panels of the town hall of Perros-Guirec. Essentially a landscape painter, he remains attached to a certain naturalism. His painting is solid, well structured. Many museums preserve works by André Strauss: Albi, Amiens, Douai, Dublin, Le Havre, Lille, Lyon, Nantes, Quimper, Riom, Saint-Quentin.
