"67.5cm! Large Terracotta Group, "the Engagement Ring" By Jean Louis Grégoire 19th Century"
Magnificent large terracotta group representing a man-woman couple holding each other. This is a sculpture by Jean Louis Grégoire based on the bronze original that he exhibited at the Salon of 1882. This sculpture is titled "The Engagement Ring" in Grégoire's repertoire. We see a 16th century couple dressed in Renaissance fashion with strawberry collars. The man is leaning slightly towards the woman and seems to be presenting something to her with his hands. The details are very fine and precise. This group is very decorative in several ways. Indeed, the unusual subject and the almost perfect execution of this sculpture, but also the large size (67.5 cm high) give it an important decorative appeal. It appears to be a terracotta production from the Sèvres factory (the plaque is no longer there). Very good condition overall, no breakage in the characters, only the base has two small old chips. Period late 19th century around 1890. Delivery in wooden crate by carrier in the DRC to your home, 100 euros in France, 200 euros in the EU and 500 euros rest of the world.
