Dogon sculptures, often made on family orders, can also be the object of community worship, although their specific functions remain largely unknown. Alongside Islam, the Dogon religious tradition is based on four main cults: the Lébé, which celebrates fertility under the spiritual authority of the Hogon, the Wagem, devoted to the cult of ancestors led by the patriarch, the Binou which evokes the world of spirits and is guided by the priest of Binou, and finally the society of masks, associated with funeral rites.
