"19th Century Military Portrait Box"
Round box in black lacquer with tortoiseshell interior. It is decorated in its center with a portrait of a man painted in gouache surrounded by chiseled brass. The character represented in bust is a soldier in uniform of a certain age with white, curly hair wearing a decoration (perhaps St Louis). The lower part of his face is strong, the posture of his head is dignified without being haughty and his gaze is frank; he hints at a discreet smile. The portrait is expressive and produced with great finesse for both the face and the costume. The set is in good condition; We can point out a very small lack at the edge of the inside of the lid which is practically invisible when the box is closed and barely visible when it is opened. The miniature is signed lower right: MB de Greils. D box: 8cm, H: 2cm D miniature: 4.4cm.
