The Directoire is a style of French furniture from the late 18th century. It is closer to the Empire style, which succeeded it, than to the Louis XVI style which preceded it. It covers the period including the very end of the reign of Louis XVI, the Revolution, the Convention (1792-1795), the Directory (1795-1799) and the beginning of the Consulate. The neoclassical style of the Directory draws its inspiration from the classical repertoire of Antiquity, from the Egyptian, Etruscan and Pompeian civilizations.
