Standing Buddha Burma, Mandalay

Standing Buddha, carved in solid wood on its lotiform base, Burma (Myanmar), Mandalay period, late 19th / early 20th century. The posture is natural and his serene face shows a slight smile. The eyes are made of glass for the sake of realism. The wood is lacquered and gilded, richly decorated with inclusions of glass beads, the Awakened One holds his monastic robe (uttarasanga) in his left hand.
