Jacob Petit, monogrammed in blue
Pair of bottles
Hard porcelain, painted and enhanced with gilding
Dimensions: H. W. D. (cm.)
Paris, circa 1830 - 1848
A rare and highly decorative pair of antropomorphic flacons in the troubadour style. On one side, a minstrel or troubadour in 15th century costume playing the harp and on the other, a singer with a dove (?) dressed in the same style. The great profusion of colours and gilding makes the difference between the productions of Jacob Petit's workshop and those that are anonymous, in his own way, but less complex.
Jacob Petit
A brilliant draughtsman and technician, he brought new life to the field of hard porcelain, whose main factories gradually ran into difficulties under the July Monarchy. Unfortunately, Jacob Petit was not spared, and his sense of renewal through themes from "elsewhere": Ottoman, Far Eastern and Iberian models, as well as his ability to produce rich polychromy and gilding, did not prevent him from going bankrupt in 1848...
Condition report: restoration to the harp, to a wing, chips and wear. It is possible to have all these points restored.
