"Large Golden Wood Fireplace Screen"
Large and beautiful 19th century fireplace screen in gilded wood richly carved with foliage, shells, floral motifs and acanthus leaves. It bears a JNT mark which we have not identified. The central leaf is garnished with a fine Aubusson tapestry depicting a rockery vase holding a bouquet of flowers, which has retained subtle colors. This type of decoration testifies to the renewal of interest in the second half of the 19th century for the rococo and rococo aesthetics of the 18th century. Its silk or percale lining is worn and no longer allows the sheet to be raised. A restoration of this would make it possible to put the object back into function. However, we prefer to offer it for sale with this original lining. Very good condition of its original gilding.
