"Fireback With The Alliance Arms Of Jean Dubernard And Marguerite De Reilhac (84x104cm"
Fireback with semi-circular pediment dated 1681, vintage 17th century, in a remarkable state of conservation. With the alliance arms of Jean Dubernard (or du Bernat), marquis of La Chapelle-aux-Bareilles in Dordogne, lord of Pelvézy, 1655-1730, advisor secretary to the King, house and crown of France, squire, married in 1680 to Marguerite de Reilhac, ?-1707, last representative of the Auvergne-Limousin branch, marquise de Pelvesy Montmège and other places, family whose lineage dates back to 1343. From this union were born Marie-Thérèse, Marie-Jeanne and Jean-Louis ca 1696-1776, lord, military knight of the order of Saint-Louis, marquis of Montmège. The Dubernard family was firmly established in the Sarlat elite from 1653, with Raymond du Bernard, private lieutenant and probably his son Raymond Dubernard, receiver of tithes, who acquired a very large fortune thanks to this career. Jean Dubernard, son of the previous one, lawyer, obtained an ennoblement, in 1676, after having acquired the office of secretary to the king, they left Sarlat to settle in their rural castle of Montmège. Some abbeys were run by commendatory abbots of the local nobility, this is the case for that of Saint-Sour which was in the hands of the Reilhac de Montmège in the 17th century then the Dubernard in the 18th century, transmitted from uncle to nephew until 1770, who were the only commendatory abbots to be truly rich in Sarladais. This plaque comes, with almost certainty, from one of Jean Dubernard's two castles acquired by his alliance, see below. Plaque found in Mauzens and Miremont in Dordogne, not far from Sarlat-La-Canéda, 25 km from Montmège castle located in the commune of Mouzens and 37 km from Pelvezy castle, in Saint Geniès, lordship of Reilhac for three generations by Françoise de Carbonnières, heiress of Pelvezy, wife of Antoine de Reilhac, great-grandfather of Marguerite. The Château de Montmège passed to the Reilhac family through the alliance of Jean de Reilhac with Louise de Souillac, mother of Marguerite, upon the death of Louise's father in 1655, the Dubernards left Sarlat in 1676 to settle there as previously indicated. Coat of arms: Set on the 1st Vert with a pale Argent charged with three cranes of sand which is Dubernard, set on the 2nd pale Argent and Gules of seven pieces or Argent with seven vergettes Gules which is Reilhac. The shield is surrounded by knotted palm leaves, stamped with a marquis's helmet, three ostrich feathers and lambrequins, a row of pearls runs along its border. His weight is 156 kg.
