To tell the truth, despite extensive research in Spanish documents, I have not found any model similar to this knife.
The general shape is vaguely reminiscent of Aragonese knives, but these are much smaller in size and their handle is radically different.
Here, the shape of the blade and its decoration are very evocative of the work of the knivemakers from Santa Cruz de Mudela. However, navajas of this origin have brass handles, which are not found here.
BLADE: It is a strong blade with a single curved edge. A curved counter-edge runs from half of the blade to the tip On each side, we find etched decorations of plant motifs, and inscriptions in cursive writing
On one side "Soy defensora del honor de mi dueño " (= I defend the honor of my owner) This inscription is found on other knives from the 19th century
On the other side "Saluda al Diablo por mi" (= Salute the devil for me) To my knowledge, this victim's curse is the only one known to date on a Spanish blade. Length of the blade 22 cm, width near the handle = 2.8 cm, width at the widest 4 cm, thickness near the handle, 4.5 mm
GRIP : It is made of plates of black horn (probably bull's horn) and bones, riveted to the tang.
These parts are decorated with engraved patterns, in the same style as the engravings on the blade.
We can reasonably date this knife to the very beginning of the 19th century.
