BURGER Anton (1824-1905) Born in Frankfurt am Main Anton Burger studied art at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main between 1842 and 1846. His teachers were Johann Jakob Jung, Jakob Becker and Philipp Veit , who advised him to go and improve his skills in Munich where he stayed for two years. In 1853, he left for Paris with two artist friends, Angilbert Goebel and Philipp Rumpf, and met Camille Corot and Gustave Courbet. In 1858, he moved to Kronberg im Taunus, at the urging of his friend Rumpf. In 1859, he visited Antwerp and Amsterdam, and discovered the paintings of the masters of the Flemish and Dutch schools. Finally, in 1861, Burger settled permanently in Kronberg and founded an artists' colony with his former Städelschule classmate, Jakob Fürchtegott Dielmann. Good condition.
