"Jewelry Box With Gilt Bronze Frame And Painted Enamel Decor With Japanese Motifs, 19th Century"
Very pretty jewelry box with gilded bronze frame decorated with foliage scrollwork and corner columns supported by fantastic animals. The different sides of the box are covered with metal plates decorated with enamel painted with Japanese motifs (fans, plants, etc.) as was fashionable in the second half of the 19th century. The interior of the box as well as the bottom are lined with light mahogany wood panels. The box has its key but the lock no longer exists. Note some wear to the enamel on the upper side of the box revealing the white layer of fondant.
