Rare and very decorative singing bird automaton. Made in the 4th quarter of the 19th century by Bontems in Paris (France). This songbird cage has a gilded wooden base to seal the mechanism. The cage contains 3 original birds. The birds are all in very good condition, with brightly colored feathers. When activated, the birds all sing a song, one responding to the other, with a little pause every now and then... all the birds move their heads, and, while singing, their beaks and tail.
