"Set Of Four Study Drawings Of Archaeological Piece Greek Vases - 18th Century Italy"
Set of four drawings of 18th/19th century studies of archaeological excavations in Nola and Sicily. Nola is known for being a town 20 km from Pompeii, very renowned for its archaeological wealth. The archaeologist has here transcribed the different vases found on the site, we can read so-called scientific elements such as "vase with three handles" "face of the vase" etc. The archaeologist transcribed and painted the vases with their decorations and numbered them. These four studies are designs of Greek vases. The designer has taken particular care to represent the theme in actual size where possible, otherwise providing scale and other descriptive details. The decorative motif of each vase is presented in a frieze on the side. Since the 18th century, combining the methods of the human sciences and the natural sciences, archeology has used stratigraphy, typology and technology as founding approaches, in close connection with new scientific and heritage issues.
