Atlas Historical Genealogical Chronological Geographic Lesage Las Cases

Rare "Historical, Genealogical, Chronological and Geographic Atlas" by A. Lesage (pseudonym for Emmanuel Comte de Las Cases*), "located at M. de Sourdon, rue de la Jussienne 15", edition 1808-1809, with several maps and page Les Fastes napoléoniens 1796 to 1806, from the Empire period at the beginning of the 19th century. This atlas is in its original state. No mention of the name Las Cases which appears in later editions. Please note: the cover and especially the binding are worn and damaged, yellowed paper, traces of folds, slight tears, wear over time, see photos. * Emmanuel-Auguste-Dieudonné, Count of Las Cases (1766-1842) is a French soldier, émigré, historian and politician. He is the author of the account of the reflections and memories of Napoleon Bonaparte, whom he accompanied in his exile: the Memorial of Sainte-Hélène. The French Revolution of 1789 caused his emigration, and he spent several years in Germany and England, participating in the disaster of the Quiberon expedition (1795). He returns to London, where he lives in poverty. He considered writing novels for a time but decided on history, and this is how he composed a monumental Historical Atlas in large folio (55×34 cm), which he published under the name borrowed from Le Sage. Augmented with historical notices, the work was republished in Paris and reprinted several times between approximately 1804 and 1845.
