Drawing made on the motif, the memory of a walk in the hill, with the sea for horizon, this composition in pencil by Pierre Letuaire is emblematic of his style, both descriptive and picturesque. Exploiting only the nuances of the pencil, the artist succeeds in conveying this typically Provençal landscape, through its vegetation and the view of the sea. The silhouette approaching on the path adds to the serenity of this view which could be from yesterday like today.

When we study Provençal painting, it is always a pleasure to be able to quote the fascinating art historian, Jean-Roger Soubiran, here in an extract from the catalog of the exhibition dedicated to Pierre Letuaire, at Toulon museum between November 1985 and February 1986 : “The Provence of Letuaire is not a land of light or colors, but a country of cutting and structures. His landscapes are vedute, topographical views which are often reminiscent of engravers' drawings, engraving projects or etchings, as in the 17th century. The subject is subordinated to the description of nature, where the accuracy of observation reigns, the accuracy of the narration. »
