"Large Alabaster Sculpture “gypsy” By Emmanuel Villanis (1858-1914), French School"
Large and beautiful alabaster print representing a bust of a young nomadic woman of Hindu origin and Art Nouveau inspiration. She is represented with her hair wrapped in a scarf, in an off-the-shoulder dress, positioned with her head turned three-quarters, with a gentle air, slightly absent and dreamy. Sculpture signed on the shoulder E.Villanis and titled on the terrace Tzigane, a European term for Gypsy – this work certainly captures the free-spirited, dark and adventurous woman reflected by its title.
