"Barbedienne: Pair Of Vases In Cloisonné Enamel And Bronze With Golden Patina, 19th Century"
Elegant pair of truncated conical vases with handles on a quadripod base, in bronze with golden patina, signed F. BARBEDIENNE (1810-1892). Parisian work, these works demonstrate great mastery in the technique of polychrome enamels applied in cloisonné. In addition to the richness of the colors, the latter reinforces the orientalist influence, dear to the 19th century, in the abundant and vegetalizing ornamental lexicon of the whole. This floral decoration is made in reserve on a blue background with foliage motifs.
This fascination for a fantasized elsewhere is also found in the use of the protomes of chimeras or griffins which form the handles and delicately hold a ring each. A formal balance is created, in particular thanks to the feet of the vases, featuring claws, for harmonious and slender proportions.
