Object description :

"Large Music Box By Nicole Freres (1840)"
Cylinder music box made in Geneva by Nicole Frères. This is a good example of these early music boxes. The mechanism has a fairly large cylinder and plays 8 tunes at 2 per turn. The sound is rich and bright, as would be expected from music boxes produced during this era. The box is made of walnut, with walnut veneers on all sides and satin wood edging on the lid. The mechanism is signed on the plate and the comb and is numbered (plate and case back) 19924. It is accompanied by a huge winding key. serial number 19924 Ca 1835-1840
