Oval silver medal, inserted into a precious frame, depicting Saint Gabriel in prayer with vanitas on the book and Crucifix next to it.
He chose the rule of the Passionist Fathers, founded by Saint Paul of the Cross, in order to be able to console with his delicate heart the pains of the passion of Jesus Christ and the Virgin of Sorrows. No more vanity, no more refinements, but the rough Passionist habit was his ambition.
Once he completed his novitiate he took the name Gabriele dell'Addolorata, meaning with this the particular devotion he had towards the Mother of Sorrows. Although he had always been weak, he showed a special fervor in leading a life of penitence and prayer.
