Baluster-shaped pewter wine pitcher with straight and oblique foot and goblet, lid with raised flat roof and tasseled pusher.
Control mark: crowned CC / 1709 / TOL (for Tolosa).
Height: 21.9 cm.
TOULOUSE, 18th century
In very good condition and of rare provenance.
The typology of the pitchers in this center is clearly of medieval inspiration.
In Toulouse, the royal edict of 1691 regulating control was not respected and this hallmark with the vintage of 1709 was never updated and was used for a large part of the century. It therefore does not allow us to precisely date the objects carrying it.
I recall in passing that these pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime.
Bibliography: Tin pitchers” by Charles Boucaud - 1959.
