17th or 18th century
Nice monoxyl octagonal oak carved mortar (heart of the trunk, as can be seen below with the concentric rings in the center of the log) and its pestle, rustic work
The mortar has a very nice matt patina and an orange tint. The mortar panels have a slightly curved exterior profile. A notch was created on the edge of one of the sides to hold the pestle. The pestle is perfectly symmetrical with its central part having 2 protruding rings allowing a perfect grip, and 2 hollow incised decorative threads.
Superb decorative element for an old kitchen with copper, pewter and earthenware.
Dimensions: 16cm diameter and 12cm height (pestle 14.5cm length and 5cm diameter)
Very good condition and very nice patina, showing its regular and daily use of this tool over centuries.
Part of a collection of intersting nice carved wooden folk art items, mainly mortars (Please check my other Proantic announcements).
